January Meeting

The NBS kicked off 2011 on Thursday night with Haidar Kazem's seminar on collecting native trees for bonsai.  Thanks to all who came and braved the weather conditions.  Also, a big thank you to the Finke's for hosting.  Haidar brought a variety of trees including Amur Maple, Siberian Elm, Redbud and a twisted American Elm, which was the first tree he collected.  He also brought some heavy artillery, including a shortened spade, hand saw and his trusted pick axe.  Haidar has found a majority of his trees in rural areas during his hunting trips throughout the state.

Here is a link to "Collecting Trees from the Wild," the Walter Pall article I spoke of at the beginning of our meeting.  It's an interesting read.
