June 2011 Meeting
We began our June meeting with a recap of the bonsai happenings this spring. If you missed the action, here are links to the albums:
Collecting at the Abel Residence
Peter Warren Workshop
Shohin St. Louis
The Magruder's
Session 2 of the Japanese Black Pine workshop began with Boon Manakitivipart's video on decandling. Dave Fortune then demonstrated this technique first hand before the class decandled their workshop stock. Check out these photos shot by Shirley of the workshop.
Dave mentioned a supplier of inexpensive slow-release organic fertilizer. The company is called Bonsai Den. Here is their site - www.thebonsaiden.com.

Annual, Perennial or Bonsai?
Here are some photos of the NBS booth at Lauritzen's Spring Festival. It was a rainy weekend, so the crowd wasn't as large as usual, but Scott, Haidar and myself were still able to sell a few items and promote the NBS. We had a wide variety of trees for sale including tropicals, native collected trees, dwarf Japanese maples, accent plants, etc. We found some great dwarf hosta varieties from the Hosta Society and were gifted several young seedlings by other clubs. Lots of plants and plant people - can't beat that!
June Meeting
Our June meeting will be next Thursday, June 16th at 6:30 - Mulhall's. We are excited to share a photo montage of all our adventures over the past few months, brought to you by our man with camera, Scott Luke. Then, we'll set in on Part 2 of the Japanese Black Pine sessions with David Fortune. Please bring any material for show, critique, etc.
